We start spring with a featured build, this torques E36 build with the Rocket Bunny body kit returns to the spotlight; and this time it’s featuring the the Hyde Motor Works Flagship M1 REV 2 Supercharger kit.

The build was done by Preston Prentis from California, United States. This setup now capable of up to 45PSI also uses the Hyde Motor Works Air to Air Intercooler with a stock supercharger pulley. The boost is limited / regulated to be under 9PSI on the stock BMW M52 Engine.

Preston, better known as Ory Hara, is an auto enthusiast and with his own YouTube Channel and Instagram Page where he likes to post videos and pictures covering his car builds as well as performance parts. In mid 2022 Preston had finished his first ever Supercharged BMW build that was Featured by us in December of the same year.

The following year he decided it was time for some more power and became applied with us to become a brand ambassador and got himself the flagship M1 REV 2 Supercharger Kit. The second iteration of his Supercharged torques E36 was finished in fall of 2024. He considers it a build that is constantly being upgraded.

Featured Supercharged Build of August 2023

This month’s Featured Build takes us to Calgary in Alberta, Canada! This wonderful 1995 BMW E36 Supercharged 318Ti was built by Mathew Schmor. Mat first reached out to us earlier this year, asking us of his intent to supercharge the stock 4 Cylinder BMW M42/M44 engine using the M45 supercharger found in the Mini Cooper.

We quickly settled on a V4 M.O.A.B. 500 Kit, which is based on the AMR 500 supercharger, as the WMD 45 kit that supports the M45 supercharger was not yet ready. The M.O.A.B. 500 kit produces just under 5 PSI of boost which translates an additional 40-50HP + to the stock engine. For a 4 Cylinder BMW engine such as the M44B19 or the M42b18, which hovers around the sub 150HP mark, this pushes it to the level of the 6 Cylinder variants nearing 200HP’s with a more aggressive power band.

“Well we had a successful Saturday morning including some challenges. AMR 500 is fully operational with 4 pounds of boost recorded. We did some short test pulls mainly rolling from 2000 rpm to 5800-6000 rpm second gear shifting into 3rd.

As mentioned before we live pretty high. This set up at Sea Level would probably be reaching closer to 5 pounds of boost.
Consistency hitting 4 lbs of boost. Closer to sea level this unit would really be something.

In reality I am hitting about 2.5 lbs of boost above stock and it is still making the car way more fun to drive and the noises make me grin.”  – Mat

The car has been to the European Car show in Calgary, and the build was well documented on the 318Ti Forums.

For those interested in seeing a few videos, we have put up a small compilation with clips from Mat.

Featured Supercharged Build of June 2023

After our brief hiatus in Spring, we kick off the summer season by welcoming you back with the Featured Supercharged Build of the Month of June! This time we have something different, and that is a Supercharged Nissan Micra from Hungary!

We appreciate all auto enthusiasts, not just ones who drive BMW’s. When we were reached by David about supercharging his Nissan Micra, we were eager to be a part of this build! David is from Budapest, Hungary. And this is his pocket rocket build based on a K11 1.4L (CGA3DE engine) Nissan Micra, which originally came from the factory with some 82 HP.

When we asked David about why he wanted to supercharge this cute little machine, he had the following to say:
I only know about one turboed Micra in Hungary. People here only use it as the cheapest form of transportation. The most common budget tuning are usually Suzuki Swifts here.

And as we see, David’s friendly kitty loves the supercharger as well! #SuperchargedCats!

It was the first week of May, when they finished the tuning of the car! Using a unit from MaxxECU for all its tuning needs, the system powered by the AMR500 generated a maximum of 110 WHP. That is close to 130HP at the crank when you account for 15-20% drive train loses. Coming from some 82HP on the stock engine, this is easily a 50-60% power gain.

According to David, the car starts to pull now from 2500 all the way to 6500. A character found on twin screw and roots type supercharger systems. The car also features launch control that holds at 4000, then switches the function off at a certain speed after launching.

David initially reached out and explained to us what he was trying to do. He did however pose us with a challenging question, which is that there are many AMR 500 online to order from for less than our price, but they “may” also come with customs and taxes (and also defects). He asked us to convince him why should he order from us.

We told David we can’t think of a better reason to buy from us other than perhaps our company lawyer and good friend of ours, Peter, who also happens to come from Hungary. Okay that may not be the best reason to buy it. 😉 – So to top it off, we get our superchargers in reconditioned state from Japan and offer a warranty period. Hows that for a good reason!

To sum it up, David is meanwhile a friend of the Hyde Motor Works team and when we do head east, towards Budapest this year, we will drop by for a ride in his Micra.

For those of you interested, Davids the Micra K11 1.4 – 2002 setup is the following:
– Hyde Motor Works AMR 500 Supercharger
– BC Racing BR RA coilovers
– Japan Racing JR 29 wheels
– Toyo Proxes TR1 tyres
– Factory size Brembo rotor and pads (rears are drums :))
– Kevlar Clutch

If you want to see more of what this little pocket rocket can do, then go watch the YouTube video below where David’s Micra is reviewed by a Hungarian Youtuber, Kekszi’s Garage.
